DayCast Privacy Policy

DayCast is designed so your day, your money, and your thoughts stay yours. This policy explains, plainly, what DayCast does and does not collect. It covers both the iPhone/iPad app and the Android app; where the two differ, the section says so.

Short version

• We do not run analytics. We have no idea how you use the app.
• Notes, journal entries, tasks, events, voice memos, spending records, net worth snapshots, and PDFs all live on your device. Sensitive fields are encrypted at rest with AES-GCM.
• DayCast does not use CloudKit. There is no automatic cloud sync of your content on either platform.
• On iPhone and iPad, the only way your content moves to another device is the optional iCloud Drive backup file, written to your own private iCloud Drive container.
• On Android, cloud sync is optional and off until you turn it on. When you do, your data is stored in a Google Firebase project we operate, under your own sign-in, and only you can read it back. Details under "Android cloud sync" below.
• The free tier on Android shows a banner ad from Google AdMob. DayCast Premium removes it. There are no ads on iPhone or iPad.
• We never sell or share your data.

What DayCast does not collect

• We do not collect your name, email, phone number, or contacts.
• We do not collect any of your journal text, notes, tasks, events, or financial records.
• We do not use third-party analytics or trackers. The only advertising SDK is Google AdMob, on the Android free tier, described below.
• We do not have access to read your iCloud data.

Where your data lives

Everything you create in DayCast is stored locally on your device. Sensitive text fields (journal entries, notes, voice memo transcripts, financial records) are encrypted at rest using AES-GCM. The encryption key is generated on first launch and stored in your iOS Keychain, or in the Android Keystore on Android. Deleting DayCast from your device removes the local database and the key.

On Android, the app's data is also included in Android's own device backup to the Google account signed in on the phone (Google's backup service, governed by Google's privacy terms). You can turn that off in Android Settings, Google, Backup.

iCloud Drive backup

If you turn on backups in Settings, DayCast writes an encrypted backup file to your private iCloud Drive container. The file is stored in your own iCloud account, governed by Apple's privacy terms. We cannot read it. You can delete it any time from the Files app. DayCast does not use CloudKit; the backup file is the only sync mechanism.

Android cloud sync

On Android, if you turn on cloud sync in Settings, DayCast signs you in (either anonymously, which ties the copy to that install, or with your Google account, so two devices can share it) and stores one snapshot of your DayCast data in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore) in a project operated by JC Mobile App Studio LLC. The snapshot is scoped to your sign-in: server rules allow it to be read or written only by the account that created it. If you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account's email address and display name as part of sign-in and use them only to identify your account. Google encrypts the data in transit and at rest; the snapshot itself is not end-to-end encrypted with your device key, so treat cloud sync as a convenience you opt into rather than a requirement. We do not read your snapshot or use it for anything except syncing it back to your devices. Turning sync off stops syncing; "Delete account and cloud data" in Settings deletes the snapshot and the sign-in.

Weather on a journal entry

When you tap the weather chip on a journal entry, DayCast asks your device for your current location and queries a weather service for current conditions: Apple WeatherKit on iPhone and iPad, Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) on Android, where the request carries only approximate coordinates. The result, for example, 72°F · Partly Cloudy, is saved with that entry as encrypted text. Your location is handled by the weather provider and is not transmitted to us. We have no servers of our own.

Net Worth and ticker quotes

If you add a Holding (such as VTI, VXUS, or BND) to the Net Worth tracker, DayCast fetches a read-only quote for that ticker symbol from Finnhub at finnhub.io. Only the ticker symbol is sent. No personal data, no holdings totals, and no identifiers about you are included in the request. On Android, DayCast fetches daily exchange rates for multi-currency totals from open.er-api.com, a public rates service; that request carries no personal data either.

On-device AI

Journal reflections, summaries, prompt suggestions, proofreading, translations, and task generation are produced on your device: by Apple Intelligence on iPhone and iPad, and by Gemini Nano through Google's AICore and ML Kit on Android. They never reach a cloud model, and we do not see prompts, outputs, or any associated text. On Android, Google may download the model to your phone the first time a feature is used. On hardware without on-device AI, the AI features simply degrade gracefully. Receipt and document scanning use on-device text recognition on both platforms, and voice memos are transcribed by your device's own on-device speech recognizer.

Calendar

If you grant Calendar access, DayCast reads events from your calendars so they appear next to your Planner, and writes events you create in DayCast back to the calendar of your choice. Calendar data is handled by iOS or Android; we do not see it.

Apple Health and Health Connect

DayCast can attach a short health summary to a journal entry, for example 8,432 steps · 7h 20m sleep · 45m workout. This is off by default. Nothing is read from Health until you turn it on in Settings and grant permission, and you can revoke that permission at any time in the iOS Health app. On Android the same feature reads from Health Connect (steps, sleep, and exercise sessions), with the same off-by-default, read-only, revoke-any-time rules, managed in Android's Health Connect settings.

When it is on, DayCast reads four values for the day of the entry: step count, time asleep, workout duration, and mindful minutes. Access is read-only, DayCast never writes anything to Health. The values are turned into that one line of text and saved with your entry as encrypted text on your device, exactly like the weather summary. No raw health samples are stored.

Health data is never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, and never shared with any third party. We have no servers and never receive it. It leaves your device only if you turn on the optional encrypted iCloud Drive backup, which goes to your own iCloud account and which we cannot read.

Subscriptions

DayCast Premium is a subscription billed through Apple's App Store on iPhone and iPad, and through Google Play on Android. Apple or Google handles the payment; we never see your card, Apple ID, or Google account. They give us a transaction record that we use only to verify your subscription is active. Subscription status is stored on your device.

Advertising on Android (Google AdMob)

The Android free tier shows a banner ad through Google AdMob. AdMob's SDK may collect your device's advertising identifier, coarse device information, and ad-interaction data under Google's privacy policy. We do not use that data ourselves, and it is never combined with your DayCast content. You can reset or delete your advertising ID and opt out of ad personalization in Android Settings, Google, Ads. Subscribing to DayCast Premium removes the ad entirely. There are no ads on iPhone or iPad.

Permissions DayCast may request

• Location (When in Use), only to attach a weather summary to a journal entry.
• Camera, only when you snap a receipt or attach a photo.
• Microphone, only when you record a voice memo.
• Speech Recognition, runs on-device to transcribe voice memos.
• Photos, only when you pick images to attach.
• Calendars, only to read and write the events you ask DayCast to manage.
• Health, read-only and off by default, only to attach a steps, sleep, workout, and mindful-minutes summary to a journal entry when you enable it.
• Face ID / Touch ID (or fingerprint / face unlock on Android), only to unlock the app when you turn on App Lock.
• Notifications and exact alarms (Android), only to deliver the reminders you set at the time you set them.

Diagnostic information

If you opt in via iOS Settings, Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements, Apple may send us anonymized crash reports and performance metrics. On Android, Google Play may do the same if you opted in to usage and diagnostics in your device settings. These reports do not contain your DayCast content, contact information, or identifiers we can link back to you. DayCast itself includes no crash-reporting or analytics SDK.

Children

DayCast is a general productivity app and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

Delete your account and data

iPhone and iPad. There is no account. To export or delete your data, use the controls inside the app (Settings, Export, and Delete). To manage your iCloud Drive backup file, use the Files app or Apple's account tools at privacy.apple.com.

Android. If you turned on cloud sync, open Settings in DayCast, tap your account row, and choose "Delete account and cloud data". That deletes the synced snapshot and the sign-in immediately; the data on your phone stays until you delete it in the app or uninstall. If you can no longer open the app, email contact@jcmobileappstudio.com from the Google account you signed in with and we will delete the account and its data within 30 days.

Your rights

Unless you turned on Android cloud sync, we hold no personal data of yours, so there is nothing for us to access, correct, or delete on our servers. If you did, the deletion steps above remove everything we hold.

If you are a California resident (CCPA / CPRA), a resident of the EU/UK (GDPR), or covered by a similar law, the same applies: we have no personal data of yours to provide or delete because we do not collect it. You may still contact us with any questions.

Data security

Because DayCast data lives on your device, security depends primarily on your platform's protections, your device passcode, biometrics, and your Apple ID or Google account security. DayCast adds an optional App Lock (biometrics or PIN) that gates the app on launch. We recommend you enable two-factor authentication on your Apple ID or Google account and use a strong device passcode.
