Steady Privacy Policy

Who we are

Steady is made by JC Mobile App Studio LLC, a one-person studio based in Pennsylvania, USA. We are responsible for the app. "We" and "us" in this policy mean JC Mobile App Studio LLC. Contact: contact@jcmobileappstudio.com.

Short version

• No accounts, no ads, no analytics or tracking SDKs. We never ask for your name, email, or phone number.
• Your shifts, sleep, naps, vitals, check-ins, tags, and Fatigue Score history are stored on your device. We do not run a server for Steady, and none of it is sent to us.
• Apple Health (iPhone) and Health Connect (Android) are optional. If you turn them on, Steady reads your sleep and some overnight vitals, and can write naps and sleep back.
• Photos of a printed roster are read on your device and are not stored.
• The Fatigue Score, Nap Planner, and coaching are computed on your device. On supported iPhones, the written briefing uses Apple Intelligence on the device.
• The Android app has no internet permission at all.
• We never sell your data or use it for advertising.

What reaches us, and what goes to others

What reaches us: nothing from inside the app. Steady does not connect to any server we operate. If you email us, we receive what you choose to send.

What third parties receive, under their own policies:

• Apple (iPhone): Apple Health stores the health data Steady reads and writes, App Store purchases go through Apple, and your iCloud Backup may include Steady's data if you use it. If a future iOS 27 version turns on Private Cloud Compute (see "AI features"), that would go to Apple too. Apple privacy policy.
• Google (Android): Health Connect stores the health data Steady reads and writes on your phone, Google Play handles purchases, and Android's backup to your Google account includes Steady's database and settings if device backup is on. Google privacy policy.
• Your calendar provider: if you export your shifts to your calendar, Steady creates those events in the calendar you pick. If that calendar syncs to iCloud, Google, or another service, the shift events sync there too.

Where your data lives

Everything you enter or log, including your shift pattern and schedule changes, sleep and nap entries, wake check-in mood, sleep tags (such as caffeine, alcohol, medication, pain, stress, or feeling sick), caffeine logs, notes, overnight vitals imported from Health, and your Fatigue Score history, is stored in Steady's database on your device. It is shared with Steady's own widgets and your Apple Watch or Wear OS watch over local links between your devices. Deleting Steady removes it from the device. You can export your sleep sessions and shift changes as CSV files from Settings; where that file goes is up to you.

Apple Health and Health Connect (optional)

You can log sleep by hand, or let Steady use Apple Health on iPhone or Health Connect on Android. Access is asked for only when you turn it on, and you can revoke it anytime in iOS Settings, Privacy & Security, Health, or in the Health Connect app.

• Reads: sleep, and overnight vitals, which are heart rate variability, resting heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood oxygen, plus skin temperature on Android. Android can also import in the background.
• Writes: sleep and naps you log in Steady. On iPhone, your wake check-in mood can also be saved to Apple Health as a State of Mind entry.

Health data Steady reads stays on your device and is never sent to us. Apple and Google do not allow it to be used for advertising, and we don't.

Roster photos, camera, and calendar

You can import your schedule by taking or picking a photo of a printed roster. Steady reads the dates and shift codes on your device, with Apple's Vision framework on iPhone and Google's ML Kit text recognition, bundled inside the app, on Android. The photo is not saved and is not uploaded anywhere. Steady can also read your calendar to import shifts, and write your shifts to your calendar, only touching events it created. Calendar access is asked for only when you use these features.

Other device features

• Smart alarm: while a smart alarm is running, Steady reads the motion sensor about once a second to estimate light sleep. The readings stay on the device and are discarded after use.
• App lock: Face ID, Touch ID, or your Android screen lock is checked by the system. Steady never sees your biometric data.
• Notifications and alarms: scheduled on your device. Their content is not sent to us.

AI features

The Fatigue Score, Nap Planner, and all numbers and recommendations come from rules that run on your device. On iPhones with Apple Intelligence (iOS 26 and later), Steady uses Apple's on-device model to write the briefing in plain sentences and to answer questions; everyone else gets a rules-based briefing. Nothing leaves the phone for either.

Steady's code also contains an option to use Apple's Private Cloud Compute on iOS 27, which would send a summary of recent nights, vitals, and tags (not raw Health records and no identifiers) to Apple's servers to write the briefing. It is switched off in current versions. If an update turns it on, it will have its own switch in Settings, we will update this policy first, and Apple, not us, would process that request. The Android app has no cloud AI.

Consumer health data

This section describes the health-related data Steady handles, for laws such as Washington's My Health My Data Act and Nevada's consumer health data law.

• Categories: sleep and nap times and stages, overnight vitals (heart rate variability, resting heart rate, respiratory rate, blood oxygen, and skin temperature on Android), wake mood, sleep tags that can reflect health (medication, pain, stress, sickness, alcohol, caffeine), smart alarm motion readings, and the Fatigue Score and sleep debt calculated from them.
• Sources: you, Apple Health or Health Connect if you connect them, and your phone's motion sensor during a smart alarm.
• Purpose: only to show your sleep, fatigue, and recovery, plan naps, set alarms, and write your coaching and briefings.
• Where it is processed: on your device. We, JC Mobile App Studio LLC, do not collect or receive it.
• Sharing: only where you turn it on: writing sleep, naps, or mood to Apple Health or Health Connect, your own device backup, and files you choose to export. No other third party receives it.
• Never sold, never used for ads.
• Your rights and deletion: delete entries in the app, turn off Health access, or uninstall Steady to remove it from your device. Data Steady wrote to Apple Health or Health Connect can be deleted there. Because we hold none of it, we have nothing to delete on our side, but you can contact us with any request.

Subscriptions

Steady Pro is billed by Apple through the App Store on iPhone and by Google Play on Android. Apple or Google handles the payment. We never see your card, Apple ID, or Google account. The app checks your subscription status with Apple or Google on your device; we do not run a purchase server. Apple and Google give us sales reports that do not identify you. You can manage or cancel in your Apple Account settings or in Google Play, Subscriptions.

Diagnostics

Steady includes no analytics or crash reporting SDK. If you opted in to sharing with app developers in iOS Settings, Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements, Apple may give us crash reports and performance metrics that do not identify you and do not include your sleep data. On Android, Google Play may do the same based on your device settings.

Sale, sharing, and targeted advertising

We do not sell your personal data, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use it for targeted advertising. Steady has no ads and no ad SDK on either platform, and it does not use your device's advertising ID.

Data retention

Data on your device is kept until you delete it in the app or uninstall Steady. Copies in Apple Health, Health Connect, your calendar, your device backup, or exported files are kept until you delete them there. We hold no Steady data on any server.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, Oregon, Indiana, Kentucky, Rhode Island and other US states, or the EU/UK), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or get a copy of personal data, and to opt out of targeted advertising, sale, or profiling. Many of these laws may not apply to a studio our size, but we honor these requests from everyone.

Since Steady keeps your data on your device, you can see, export, and delete it yourself in the app. For anything else, email contact@jcmobileappstudio.com. We respond within 45 days, and we won't treat you differently for asking. If we decline, you can appeal by replying to our answer with "Appeal", and we'll respond within 45 days (60 days at most where the law allows). If the appeal is denied, you may contact your state attorney general.

Children

Steady is a wellness and planning app for adult shift workers and is not directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

International users

We hold no Steady data. If you contact us, your email is handled in the United States.

Security

Your Steady data is protected by your device's security, your passcode, and, if you turn it on, Steady's app lock. Health data also has Apple Health's or Health Connect's protections. Steady on Android cannot use the internet, and Steady on iPhone does not send your data to any server. No system is perfectly secure, so use a strong device passcode.

A note on health

Steady is a wellness and planning tool, not a medical device. The Fatigue Score is informational. Steady does not diagnose, treat, or prevent any condition. If you have ongoing sleep problems or safety concerns, talk to a healthcare professional.

Changes

When this policy changes, we update the "Last updated" line above and post the new version at this address. Material changes are also noted in the app's release notes.
