Semifinal Sunday: Argentina vs England, France vs Spain, and our pick for the Cup

Four teams are left. Both quarterfinals yesterday needed extra time to settle, and today both semifinals kick off at 3pm. Here is the recap, what is left to watch, and a poll for who you think takes it all. Verified July 12, 2026.

Semifinal Sunday, four teams left. July 12, 2026.

England beat Norway 2-1 in extra time, Jude Bellingham scored both goals. Argentina beat Switzerland 3-1, also in extra time, Julian Alvarez got the winner, and Switzerland played over 50 minutes down to 10 men after Breel Embolo picked up a second yellow card for diving.

France vs Spain, 3pm, AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas.

England vs Argentina, 3pm, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta.

Four teams remain, Argentina, England, France, and Spain. Argentina is the defending champion and just showed it can grind out a result even a man up against 10, that matters more than a pretty scoreline. England leans heavily on Bellingham, two goals in a quarterfinal is not nothing, but take him out of a game and it is fair to ask who else steps up. France vs Spain is the classic European heavyweight matchup, expect a high tempo, possession heavy game with real quality up front on both sides. Whoever wins today plays for the trophy, the losers meet for third place.

I think Argentina is the team to beat. Defending champions with Alvarez in form and a squad that has now shown it can win ugly, not just pretty, is usually what separates a team that wins it all from one that just makes a run. England worries me because of how much they lean on one player. France vs Spain feels close to a coin flip, but I would lean Spain slightly given how deep their midfield has looked all tournament.
