When does this free trial actually end?

Trials convert because the end date is fuzzy. Make it a real date on your calendar, with a reminder a day or two early, and the surprise charge never happens.

Why "7 days" is not 7 days

A trial that starts Tuesday at 9:14 pm usually ends the following Tuesday at 9:14 pm, and the charge can post at that minute. Some services bill on the last day of the trial, some the morning after. The safe reading is: cancel the day before the last day, which is what the reminder defaults to.

Cancelling does not end the trial

On iPhone, cancelling an App Store trial keeps it running until the end date, you just do not get charged. So the right move is to cancel the moment you decide you will not keep it, even on day one. Settings, your name, Subscriptions, cancel. Same idea on Google Play and most streaming services.

The trials that get people

Annual plans. A "7-day free trial, then $79.99/year" converts to a big charge that is hard to refund. If the price field above is a yearly amount, the reminder matters twice as much. Apple will often refund an accidental annual charge if you ask within a few days at reportaproblem.apple.com; other companies are less forgiving.

Trials end at the time of day they started, in the company's time zone, and some charge on the last day rather than the day after. Treat the reminder date as the real deadline.
