How much iPhone storage do you actually need?

Paying for storage you never use is wasted money, and running out mid-vacation is worse. Answer a few honest questions about how you use your phone and get a recommended tier. Everything runs in your browser, nothing is saved or sent anywhere.

Recommended: 256 GB

The math reserves room for iOS itself, system data, and headroom so the phone does not slow to a crawl at 99 percent full. Growth over the years you keep the phone is baked in.

How to think about storage tiers

Apple charges a real premium for each storage jump, and you cannot upgrade later, so this is the one spec worth getting right on day one. The biggest variables by far are video and whether you let iCloud Photos keep the originals. If you shoot 4K video and keep everything on the phone, no small tier will save you.

A useful rule: your phone should still have about 20 percent free space at the end of its life, not the beginning. iOS needs breathing room for updates, caches, and system data, which quietly eats 15 GB or more on its own.

This is a general estimate based on typical usage patterns, not a guarantee. Your real usage may differ.
