Strength here means guessing entropy against an offline attacker making ten billion guesses per second. Real attackers try common words, dates, and patterns first, so a short "clever" password is weaker than the math suggests.
Why four random words beat P@ssw0rd1
A passphrase of four truly random words from a large list has more possible combinations than a typical 8-character password with symbols, and you can actually remember it. The key word is random. Words you pick yourself, song lyrics, or your dogs' names are not random, attackers try those first.
The honest best practice is a password manager generating a unique password for every site, with a strong passphrase like these protecting the manager itself and your Apple account. Turn on two-factor everywhere it is offered.
