OmniLog Support

OmniLog is a media time tracker for games, books and shows, on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Android. Most questions are answered below.

Frequently asked questions

Getting started

What does OmniLog do?

It tracks the games, books, shows and movies you're into, and the time you spend on them. Start a session when you pick something up, end it when you put it down, and OmniLog learns your pace, forecasts when you'll finish, and suggests what fits the time you have tonight.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no OmniLog account, no sign-up and no email. Your library lives on your device and syncs through your own iCloud.

What do I need to run it?

An iPhone or iPad running iOS 27 or iPadOS 27 or later. The Apple Watch app needs watchOS 27. Features that use Apple Intelligence need a device that supports it, and everything else works without it.

Is there an Android or Mac version?

An Android version is in development. There is no Mac version at the moment.

How do I use the time budget?

On Up Next, pick how much time you have (or set a default in Settings). OmniLog puts what fits at the top. Change it any evening.

Can I replay the welcome tips?

Yes. Settings › Show the welcome screens again. "How OmniLog works" explains each feature.

Sessions and Up Next

How do I log time?

Open an item and tap Start. Tap End when you're done and say how far you got (minutes, pages or episodes). You can also start and stop from the widget, Lock Screen timer, Control Center, Apple Watch, an NFC tag, Siri or Shortcuts.

I forgot to end a session.

OmniLog watches for sessions left running for a long time and can remind you (Settings › Nudges › Forgotten running sessions). When you end one late, you choose how far you got, so the time and progress you record stay right.

How does the finish forecast work?

It divides what's left by your own recent pace (pages per minute, episodes per week, hours per session). The more sessions you log, the better it gets. Games show a "time to beat" figure from IGDB until you have enough of your own sessions.

What does "fits tonight" mean?

Up Next ranks your items by whether a sensible session fits your time budget, and by leaving dates, due dates and what you were in the middle of.

What is "Previously on…"?

The one-line notes you add when you end a session can be turned into a spoiler-safe recap the next time you pick the item up. It's written from your own notes by Apple Intelligence.

Can I use my voice for notes?

Yes. Tap the mic in the end-of-session sheet. See Privacy below for how speech is handled.

Adding things

How do I add something?

Tap + and search by title, or scan a shelf with the camera, import from another app, paste or share a link, or tell OmniLog in a sentence (for example "started Hades II on Switch").

Can I add a game that doesn't exist in search?

Yes. Add it by hand with a title, and fill in anything you like. You can attach your own cover from Photos.

Which apps can I import from?

Goodreads, StoryGraph, Letterboxd, Sofa and Trakt exports, plus any CSV with a Title or Name column (this covers Sequel, Backloggd and spreadsheets). Open Settings › Switching from another app for each app's steps. Your original data is never changed. Steam and other store pages can be added by sharing their link.

What is the share extension?

In Safari, Steam, the TV app and others, tap Share › OmniLog to add what you're looking at.

I get duplicates after importing.

OmniLog matches by title and year to avoid duplicates, but names that differ a lot can slip through. Open the extra one and delete it.

How do I add the same title again (replay, reread)?

Mark it as finished again. OmniLog keeps a completion count and your sessions for each pass.

Covers and details

A cover or detail is wrong.

Open the item, tap Edit, and change the title, cover, length or anything else. Your edit is kept and never overwritten by catalog data.

A game, show or book is missing from search.

Try the exact title, or the original title. Search is limited by what the catalogs know. You can always add it by hand.

Search says it can't connect.

OmniLog needs an internet connection to search. Your library, sessions and forecasts work offline. If you're online and it still fails, try again in a minute, because the catalogs rate-limit.

Where does the data come from?

IGDB for games, TMDB and Movie of the Night for shows and movies, and Open Library for books. Attributions are in Settings › About.

Why is "where to watch" wrong or missing for my country?

Availability data depends on your region setting and on what the catalog knows. Check Settings › Where to watch & prices. If a service is wrong, tell us the title and country.

Why do prices show in the wrong currency?

Prices are the ones the catalog reports for your region. Some titles don't have one.

Shows and episodes

How do I mark an episode watched?

Open the series and find Episodes. Tap an episode to mark it watched. Touch and hold an episode for "Mark watched up to here" or to mark a whole season.

How do I fix my place in a show I already watched?

Touch and hold the last episode you watched and choose "Mark watched up to here".

Why does a series show a different number of episodes?

Episode lists come from TMDB and may differ from your streaming service's. Your streaming service's count may differ from the catalog's.

Reminders and release radar

What reminders does OmniLog send?

Optional ones: a nudge at the time you choose, "leaving soon" for shows and games leaving a service you subscribe to, and "due back soon" for library loans. All are scheduled on your device.

I'm not getting notifications.

Check iOS Settings › Notifications › OmniLog and make sure they're allowed, and that Focus modes aren't muting them. In OmniLog, Settings › Nudges shows what's turned on.

What is the release radar?

An OmniLog Plus feature. It watches the games and shows on your wishlist and tells you when a release date is set, when it arrives on a service you pay for, or when its price drops. It checks in the background a few times a day. It can be switched off in Settings › Release radar & your services.

Why didn't the radar tell me something right away?

iOS decides when background checks happen. Opening OmniLog also checks. It's best-effort, not instant.

Siri, widgets, NFC and Shortcuts

What can I ask Siri?

"Start a session in OmniLog", "end my session", "what should I start tonight?" and similar. Siri phrases appear in the Shortcuts app under OmniLog.

How do I add the widget or Lock Screen timer?

Touch and hold the Home Screen or Lock Screen › Edit › add OmniLog. The Live Activity appears on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island while a session runs.

How do NFC tags work?

In an item's ••• menu, choose Write NFC tag and hold a blank tag to the top of your iPhone. Tap it later to start or end a session. It works on iPhone with NFC.

Can I automate things?

Yes. Settings › Automations: log without tapping lists ready-made recipes for Shortcuts (for example, start a session when you tap an NFC tag).

Apple Watch

How do I get the Watch app?

Install OmniLog on your iPhone and open the Watch app › OmniLog › Install. It syncs through iCloud, so sign in to iCloud on both.

The Watch shows an empty library.

Open OmniLog on the iPhone first and make sure iCloud is on and signed in on both. Give it a minute to sync. Watch apps can't sync in simulators.

Can I run a session from the Watch?

Yes. Pick an item, tap Start, and tap End. Your complication shows what you're on and for how long.

iPad and Duo

Does OmniLog work on iPad?

Yes. It uses a sidebar and a detail page, and the same library as your iPhone.

What is the Duo layout?

On foldable dual-screen devices, OmniLog lays pages across both halves like a book. In tabletop posture, a session timer sits on the lower half.

iCloud, backups and moving devices

How does sync work?

Your library syncs between your devices through your private iCloud database, with no account and no server of ours. It needs iCloud to be signed in, and iCloud Drive to be on for backups.

It isn't syncing.

Check iOS Settings › your name › iCloud, that you're signed in with the same Apple Account on both devices, and that you have free iCloud storage. Changes can take a minute to arrive.

Where are my backups?

In the Files app › iCloud Drive › OmniLog. OmniLog keeps the latest ten. To restore, Settings › Restore from a backup, then choose Add missing items (keeps what you have) or Replace my library.

How do I move to a new iPhone?

Sign in to the same Apple Account with iCloud on, and install OmniLog. Your library will download. You can also Export on the old phone and Import on the new.

How do I export my data?

Settings › Your data › Export library saves a JSON file you can keep, read or import elsewhere.

How do I delete everything?

Settings › Your data › Delete everything. This removes all items and sessions from your devices and iCloud. OmniLog saves one backup in iCloud Drive first, so you can restore it if you didn't mean it. Delete that file if you want it gone too.

I deleted the app. Is my data gone?

No. It's still in your iCloud and will return when you reinstall. To remove it permanently, use Delete everything before you delete the app, or remove OmniLog's data in iOS Settings › your name › iCloud › Manage Account Storage.

OmniLog Plus

What is free?

Your whole library and sessions, Up Next and finish forecasts, widgets, Watch, Siri and Live Activities, iCloud sync, backups and full export. These stay free.

What does OmniLog Plus add?

"Previously on…" recaps, "Start next" explained by Apple Intelligence, scanning a shelf to add it all, release radar alerts, sharing your year in review, and Watch together. The OmniLog Plus screen in the app lists what's included and shows the price in your currency before you buy.

What does it cost?

Plans are monthly and yearly. In the US, they are $2.99 a month and $19.99 a year, and the yearly plan can include a free week. The exact price and trial for your account are on the purchase screen.

How do I cancel?

iOS Settings › your name › Subscriptions › OmniLog, or Settings › Manage subscription in the app. Deleting the app doesn't cancel it. You'll keep Plus until the end of the period you paid for.

How do I get a refund?

Apple handles refunds: reportaproblem.apple.com. We can't issue them because Apple processes payments.

I paid but Plus isn't unlocked.

Open the OmniLog Plus screen and tap Restore purchases while signed in to the Apple Account that bought it. If it still fails, email us your Apple order number.

Does Family Sharing work?

Not at the moment. OmniLog Plus is for the Apple Account that buys it.

What happens to my data if I stop paying?

Nothing is lost. You keep your library, sessions, backups and exports. Only the Plus features switch off.

Privacy and AI

What leaves my phone?

Mainly the title you search for, and your region, to look up covers and details. The full list is in the Privacy Policy, and in the app under Settings › Privacy.

Does OmniLog track me or show ads?

No. There are no ads, no analytics, no third-party SDKs and no tracking.

Can you read my library?

No. It's in your own iCloud, and we have no access.

Does the AI send my notes to OmniLog?

No. Apple Intelligence runs on your device or in Apple's Private Cloud Compute. We never receive it.

Is voice dictation private?

Where your iPhone supports it, speech is recognized on the device. Otherwise Apple's speech service may process the audio. OmniLog never keeps the audio.

I don't want the AI features.

Turn off Apple Intelligence in iOS Settings, or don't use scan, recap and sentence logging. Everything else works the same.

OmniLog on Android

The same app, built for Android phones, tablets, foldables and Wear OS watches. Everything above about sessions, Up Next, adding things and shows applies. These answers cover what is different.

Does my library move between iPhone and Android?

Yes, through a file. On the iPhone, open Settings › Your data › Export library. Move the file to your Android phone and open OmniLog › Settings › Your data › Import an OmniLog export. The format is the same both ways, and items you already have are left alone. There is no live sync between iPhone and Android, because OmniLog has no server.

Where is my library stored? How do I back it up?

On your phone. OmniLog › Settings › Your data › Backups and restore saves a dated backup every day; choose a folder (Google Drive, a memory card, anywhere the file picker reaches) to keep copies outside the app. Your library is also part of Android's own backup to your Google Account when that is on. To move to a new phone, restore from a backup or from Google's phone transfer.

How do I start a session without opening the app?

Add the OmniLog widget to your home screen (touch and hold the home screen › Widgets). The notification shows a live timer with an End button while a session runs. Add the OmniLog tile in Quick Settings (swipe down, tap the pencil). Touch and hold the app icon for shortcuts.

How do NFC tags work on Android?

Open an item, tap ⋮ › Write NFC tag, and hold a blank tag against the back of your phone. Tapping the tag later starts or ends that item's session. Tags written on an iPhone work on Android and the other way round.

The widget or the notification doesn't show.

Allow notifications for OmniLog in Android Settings. Some phones put apps to sleep aggressively; if the widget stops updating, set OmniLog's battery use to Unrestricted.

How do I use OmniLog on a foldable?

Unfold your phone. OmniLog lays two pages side by side that meet on the fold, with the menu on the right edge by your thumb. Each page scrolls on its own. On the cover screen it is a single column.

How do I get the Wear OS app?

Install OmniLog from Google Play on your phone; the watch app is offered for your paired Wear OS 3 or newer watch in the Play Store on the watch. It shows what fits tonight, starts and ends sessions, marks episodes, and has a tile and a complication. It talks to your phone, so keep them paired.

How do I manage or cancel OmniLog Plus?

In Google Play › Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions › OmniLog Plus, or from OmniLog › Settings › OmniLog+ › Manage subscription. To restore it on a new phone, open OmniLog+ in Settings on a phone signed in to the same Google Account. Refunds are handled by Google Play.

Recaps and "Start next" explanations don't appear.

They are written on your phone by Google's Gemini Nano, which only some phones have (recent Pixel and Galaxy models). Without it you still see your last session note and the plain reasons. The first use may download the model, so try again on Wi-Fi.

Shelf scan misses titles.

Text is read on your phone. Use good light, hold the phone level, and scan a few spines at a time with the titles facing the camera. Review the matches before adding.

What does Android share about me?

Only what the Privacy Policy lists: the title you search, and diagnostics Google's ML Kit sends for shelf scan and recaps.

Troubleshooting

OmniLog is slow or crashes.

Update to the latest iOS and OmniLog, restart the device, and try again. If it continues, email us the iOS version, your device model and what you were doing.

My sessions show the wrong time.

Check that Date & Time in iOS Settings is set automatically. Edit a session in History to correct it.

The Live Activity doesn't appear.

Check that "Lock Screen timer (Live Activity)" is on in OmniLog Settings, and that Live Activities are allowed in iOS Settings › OmniLog.

The camera scan misses titles.

Use good light, hold the phone level, and scan a few spines at a time. Review the matches before adding.

I changed phone and lost my Plus.

Use Restore purchases on the OmniLog Plus screen with the same Apple Account (iPhone) or Google Account (Android).
