Renewl Privacy Policy

Renewl exists so you can track your subscriptions without handing an app your bank login. That promise only works if your data stays yours, so this policy explains, plainly, what we do and do not collect. It applies to both the iPhone and Android versions of Renewl.

Short version

• We do not run analytics. We don't know how you use the app, on either platform.
• There is no bank connection and no account. You never link a bank to Renewl.
• The subscriptions and trials you track, the receipt images you scan, and the amounts and dates Renewl reads stay on your device. On iPhone, if you turn on iCloud, they sync through your own private iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit service. On Android, sync is off until you turn it on; when you do, it uses a private app folder in your own Google Drive.
• We do not run a server that holds your data. There is no Renewl-side database of users.
• We never sell or share your data, because we don't have it.
• The only personal data that ever leaves your device is what you explicitly send: an in-app purchase through Apple's App Store or Google Play, an iCloud sync (iPhone) or a Google Drive sync (Android) to your own account, or the optional Apple Wallet scan described below. The two small downloads Renewl makes on its own (a public list of known price changes and daily exchange rates) carry nothing about you.

What Renewl does not collect

• We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, location, or contacts.
• We do not collect any information about your subscriptions, receipts, or spending.
• We never connect to your bank and never see your financial accounts.
• We do not use third-party analytics, advertising SDKs, or trackers, on either platform.
• We do not have access to read your iCloud data or your Google Drive data.

How receipt scanning works

When you scan a confirmation email, receipt, or bank statement, Renewl reads it entirely on your device. On iPhone, Apple's Vision framework turns the image into text, and Apple's on-device Foundation Models extract the merchant, amount, billing cycle, and renewal or trial-end date. On Android, Google's on-device ML Kit turns the image into text, and Android's on-device AICore (Gemini Nano) extracts those same details. On either platform, the image and its text never leave your device and are never uploaded to us, to Apple, or to Google. If on-device AI is unavailable, Renewl falls back to a built-in text reader that also runs entirely on your device.

Statement import and Apple Wallet

You can also import a bank or card statement file (CSV, OFX/QFX, or PDF) to find recurring charges. The file is parsed on your device and is never uploaded. On iPhone, if you allow it, Renewl can read Apple Card, Apple Cash, and Savings transactions through Apple's FinanceKit framework to spot recurring charges; that data is read on your device, only the subscriptions you choose to add are kept, and nothing is sent to us. Apple lets you revoke this access at any time in Settings, Privacy & Security, Wallet. There is no equivalent bank or wallet connection on Android.

Sharing a receipt into Renewl

If you share a receipt or confirmation email into Renewl from another app, using the iOS Share Sheet or Android's share menu, that item is handed to Renewl on your device and processed with the same on-device pipeline described above. It is not transmitted to us.

Where your data lives

Everything you track is stored locally on your device. On iPhone, if you have iCloud enabled, Renewl syncs that data through Apple's CloudKit service to your own private iCloud account; CloudKit data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple, and only you can access it.

On Android, your data is stored in a local database on your device. Two things can carry it off the device, both under your control. First, Android's own backup, which copies app data to the Google account signed in on the phone so it survives a new device; that is Google's backup service, governed by Google's privacy terms, and you can turn it off in Android Settings. Second, optional Google Drive sync: if you connect it in Settings, Renewl writes a single snapshot of your list to a hidden, app-private folder in your own Google Drive that only Renewl can read (Google's "appDataFolder" scope). It is used only to move your list between your own devices. We never receive it, and disconnecting sync in Settings deletes the app's access. You can remove the stored file yourself at any time from Google Drive's settings under "Manage apps".

Price watch and exchange rates

Renewl Pro checks a small public list of known price changes for popular services (Netflix, Spotify, and so on) that we host on our own website, so the app can update a price without a rescan. That is a plain download of a static file: the request contains nothing about you or your subscriptions. If you track subscriptions in more than one currency, Renewl also fetches daily exchange rates from Frankfurter (api.frankfurter.dev), a public rates service, again with no personal data attached. Both features work offline from bundled data if the network is unavailable.

Reminders

Renewl schedules reminders as local notifications on your device, on both platforms. No push server is involved, and your subscription details are never sent anywhere to deliver a reminder.

Subscriptions

Renewl Pro is processed through Apple's App Store on iPhone and Google Play on Android. Apple or Google handles the payment; we never see your card, Apple ID, or Google account. They give us a transaction record that we use only to verify your Pro subscription is active. Subscription status is stored on your device. Renewl Pro is $2.99 USD per month or $19.99 USD per year, with a 7-day free trial on the yearly plan, on both platforms.

Diagnostic information

On iPhone, if you opt in via iOS Settings, Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements, Apple may send us anonymized crash reports and performance metrics; these do not contain your subscription data or identifiers we can link back to you, and you can disable this at any time in iOS Settings. On Android, Renewl does not include any crash-reporting or analytics SDK, so no diagnostic information is collected at all.

Children

Renewl is not directed at children under 13. The app contains no advertising and no social features, on either platform. We don't knowingly collect any data, period, but specifically we don't collect data from children.

Your rights

Because we do not collect personal data, there is nothing for us to access, correct, or delete on our servers. On iPhone, you can manage your iCloud data through Apple's account tools at privacy.apple.com. On Android, your synced snapshot lives in your own Google Drive; disconnect sync in Renewl's Settings, and remove the file under Google Drive, Settings, Manage apps. On either platform, deleting the app deletes everything Renewl stored on that device.

If you are a California resident (CCPA / CPRA), a resident of the EU/UK (GDPR), or covered by a similar law, the same applies: we have no personal data of yours to provide or delete because we do not collect it. You may still contact us with any questions.

Data security

Because your data lives on your device (and, if you sync, your private iCloud or Google Drive), security depends primarily on your platform's protections: device passcode or biometrics (Face ID, Touch ID, or Android's fingerprint/face unlock), and, on iPhone, your iCloud account security. We recommend a strong device passcode and, where relevant, two-factor authentication on your Apple ID or Google Account.
