First, the number
The "42" comes from Samsung Magazine's weekly tally, as relayed by Shattered, and it counts everything: OS upgrades, security patches, stability builds, a 0.68 MB Galaxy Ring firmware, and app updates for Samsung Wallet and Home Up. SammyGuru's own roundup for the same week lists about 25 device entries. Dozens is the honest word. And they fall into three kinds, which the briefing blurred into one. (Shattered, SammyGuru)
Kind one: maintenance builds for phones that already have One UI 9
The Galaxy S26, S26+, S26 Ultra, Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Flip 8 all got a second October build between October 26 and 29, up to about 700 MB, with a changelog that says "improves device stability" and the same October 2026 security patch they already had. The US got it too, carrier and unlocked. That's it. That's the update the briefing described as a stable One UI 9 rollout. The S26 had stable One UI 9 in Korea on September 16, on T-Mobile September 23, unlocked and Verizon September 28, and Europe and India September 29. The Fold 8 and Flip 8 shipped with it in July. (Sammy Fans, SammyGuru on the US build, Samsung Newsroom, September 16)
Kind two: One UI 9 arriving for real
- Galaxy Tab S11 and Tab S11 Ultra, Korea first. These are the first tablets on One UI 9.
- Galaxy A55, worldwide, and A35 on US carriers. The A54 started in Korea for people who were on the beta. The A15 5G and XCover 7 Pro in Korea.
- India's mid-range, all at once: M56, F17, M54, F70 Pro, M36, F36, M35, F54, M07 and F07, as 2.2 to 2.9 GB downloads with the October patch.
For the phones people actually ask me about, here's where the tracker stands. S25 series and Fold 7 and Flip 7: done since the first week of October. S24 series: US carriers October 12, US unlocked October 21. S23 series: US carriers October 20, unlocked October 26. Fold 6 and Flip 6: US October 12. A56: US October 20. If you have one of those and don't have One UI 9, it's in Settings, Software update, and it's a big download, so do it on Wi-Fi. (SammyGuru's tracker)
The one still waiting: the Galaxy S23 FE. It got the October security patch last week, on One UI 8.5. Samsung Thailand moved its One UI 9 to "later this year" and Samsung Japan's list says mid-January 2027. If that's your phone, you're on 8.5 until winter and there's nothing to do about it. (SammyGuru)
Kind three: the October patch, late
S26 FE, A57, Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6, Z TriFold, the Tab S8 series, Tab Active 5 Pro and the Galaxy Watch 9 all got October's security patch during the week. Nobody got November's. Samsung usually starts its November patch in the first days of the month on the newest flagships, so if you see one this week, that's it, and it's separate from everything above.
The bugs
- S26 Ultra setup-screen freeze. Some phones hang on a setup or sign-in screen with a WebView error after updating. A Samsung community manager has acknowledged it, and the workaround is to update the Samsung Internet browser (or Android System WebView) from the store and try again. The second October build may be the fix; Samsung hasn't said so in the changelog. (Android Police)
- S24 battery drain after One UI 9. Enough reports to be a pattern, not enough to be a confirmed bug, and no Samsung statement. The usual advice applies: give it three days for the indexing to finish, then check Settings, Battery, for one app at the top. (Android Central)
- Fold 8 stretched YouTube thumbnails on some units, still unresolved; the app icon misalignment from September was fixed by a Home Up update. (Android Authority)
- Samsung News shuts down December 21. Notices have gone out in Korea, India and Europe. The widgets stop updating and there's no named replacement. Google Discover is a swipe away. (The PC Enthusiast)
Meanwhile, at Google
November is the first month the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro don't get a security update; I wrote up what that means and what to do yesterday. Google's monthly Pixel update lands on the first Monday, so Pixel 6a and newer should have November's by now, or get it in the next few days; the 6a is on the same first-generation Tensor as the 6 and stays supported until July 2027. On the beta side, Android 17 QPR1 has been stable since September 15, QPR2 is at Beta 7.1 and due in December, and QPR3 Beta 1 came out October 2 for a March release. If you're on the beta program on a Pixel 6 or 6 Pro, you aren't anymore. (Pixel Update Bulletin, 9to5Google)
What I was sent, and what was wrong with it
- "Pushing stable One UI 9 builds across Europe and India for the Galaxy S26 series and Galaxy Z Fold 8," with "North American unlocked and carrier models scheduled to receive the update this coming week." The S26 got One UI 9 in September everywhere, the Fold 8 shipped with it, and the week's builds were maintenance updates. This was the headline of the brief and it was wrong.
- "Addressed dual-screen app layout scaling and Bluetooth audio latency across the Galaxy S24 and Z Fold 6." Neither phrase appears in any changelog I can find. The S24 wasn't in the week's roundups at all, and the Fold 6 got a security patch with no feature notes.
- "Google readying its November security patch and Android 17 QPR1 beta." QPR1 shipped stable seven weeks ago. The betas are QPR2 and QPR3.
- "AOSP security bulletins will now focus exclusively on Tensor G2 hardware (Pixel 7) and newer." The Android security bulletin covers the platform, not devices. The device document is the Pixel Update Bulletin, and the Pixel 6a, on first-generation Tensor, is in it until July 2027.
- "Android OEM software delivery has reached parity with Google's own OTA rollout windows." Samsung took from September 16 to October 26 to get One UI 9 from the S26 to the S23 in the US, and the S23 FE is waiting until January. That's a lot better than it used to be. It isn't parity.
If you're deciding what to do
On a Galaxy from the last three years: take One UI 9 when it's offered, on Wi-Fi, after a backup, and if the phone hangs during setup, update the browser and try again. On an S23 FE: wait, and don't sideload a build from another region to skip the line. On a Pixel 6 or 6 Pro: the phone works exactly as it did last week, and yesterday's post is the honest list of what changes and when. On anything: if a note says a big update is "rolling out this week" and your phone got it a month ago, trust the phone.
Verified November 1, 2026, from SammyGuru's weekly roundup, its rollout tracker, Shattered, Samsung Newsroom, Notebookcheck on the US S26 rollout, Sammy Fans, Android Police, Google's Pixel Update Bulletin, Android Police on QPR2 and Droid Life. Rollout dates are from community trackers, not Samsung, and carrier timing varies by a few days. The S23 FE timing is from Samsung's Thailand and Japan pages and could move again. This piece was written Sunday night for Wednesday morning; the November patches may have started by the time you read it.
