Are you already coasting to retirement.
Coast FIRE is the moment your invested money is large enough to grow into your retirement nest egg on its own, without another dollar of contributions. You may still want to work, but you no longer have to save for retirement. Enter your details below to find your coast number and whether you have passed it. Everything runs in your browser, nothing is saved or sent anywhere.
What Coast FIRE really means
The target nest egg here uses the 4 percent rule, which says a portfolio of twenty five times your annual spending can usually support that spending through retirement. Your coast number is that target discounted back to today using your expected return, in other words the amount that, left alone, should grow into the target by the time you retire. If your invested money is already above that line, you are coasting.
These figures lean on a single average return after inflation, which real markets never deliver smoothly, and the 4 percent rule is a rule of thumb rather than a guarantee. Sequence of returns, taxes, and changing spending all matter in practice. This is an educational estimate, not investment advice.
