Your pet's age in human years.

The old trick of multiplying by seven is a myth. Pets grow up fast in their first two years, then age more slowly, and bigger dogs age quicker than small ones. Pick your pet below and get a more honest human-equivalent age, along with a life stage. Everything runs in your browser, nothing is saved or sent anywhere.

Why the simple times seven rule is wrong

A one year old dog is not a seven year old child, it is closer to a teenager, already near its full size and able to have puppies. Most of the aging happens early, so the first year counts for roughly fifteen human years and the second adds about nine more. After that the pace settles into a steadier yearly climb.

Size matters too. Small dogs tend to live longer and age slowly, while giant breeds pack more aging into each year, which is why this tool asks for a weight range. Cats follow their own curve, around fifteen human years for the first year, twenty four by the second, then about four a year after. The numbers here are friendly approximations to give you a feel, not a clinical measurement.

This is a general estimate. Real aging varies by breed, size, and health, and it is not veterinary advice. See a vet for any health questions about your pet.
